Nissan has confirmed that its all-new C-segment SUV, based on the Renault Duster, will launch in India in FY2026. Set to take on the Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Honda Elevate, and Maruti Grand Vitara, this new model will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan Alliance factory in Chennai. It is expected to arrive after Nissan’s new 7-seat compact MPV, further strengthening the brand’s SUV portfolio in India.
Exterior Design: Inspired by the Nissan Patrol
The new Nissan SUV shares its rugged silhouette with the Renault Duster but incorporates unique design elements. Inspired by the Nissan Patrol, the SUV features:
- L-shaped LED DRLs connected by a chrome strip.
- A horizontally slatted grille with thin chrome bars.
- Reshaped front bumpers with thick C-shaped silver cladding.
- Prominent creases and scoops on the bonnet.
- Differently-designed multi-spoke alloy wheels.
Although the teaser showcases a concept, some design elements may be toned down in the production model.
Interior Features: More Premium Than Duster
While Nissan has not officially revealed the interior, sources suggest it will have a similar layout to the Renault Duster but with a more premium feel. Expected features include:
- A 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
- A 7-inch digital instrument cluster.
- A 360-degree camera.
- Rear AC vents.
- Automatic climate control.
- Multiple drive modes.
The infotainment system will have the same hardware as the Duster but with a tweaked UI. It remains uncertain whether ADAS will be included in the India-spec model.
Powertrain: 1.3-Litre Turbo-Petrol with DCT
Nissan has confirmed that the SUV will be petrol-only at launch, featuring:
- A 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 154hp and 250Nm.
- A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
- No confirmation yet on a manual gearbox or AWD option for India.
Positioning and Name: A Step Above the Terrano
Nissan aims to position this SUV above its predecessor, the Terrano, and even the Renault Duster. Unlike the Terrano, which struggled in the Indian market, this model may adopt a new nameplate for a fresh identity. Additionally, a 7-seat version is expected to launch by the end of FY2026.
Conclusion
With a bold design, feature-rich cabin, and powerful turbo-petrol engine, Nissan’s upcoming SUV is set to shake up the C-segment in India. Slated for an FY2026 launch, this model will compete directly with segment leaders like the Hyundai Creta, bringing Nissan back into the spotlight. As more details emerge, the anticipation for this SUV continues to build. Stay tuned for updates!
