Takuya Tsumura’s Tenure at Honda Cars India

Tsumura took over as CEO of Honda Cars India in April 2022 and successfully led the brand through a dynamic phase in the Indian automotive market. Some of the key milestones during his tenure include:

  • The launch of the Honda City e:HEV, a strong hybrid sedan.
  • Introduction of the third-generation Honda Amaze in the subcompact sedan category.
  • Return to the compact SUV space with the launch of the Honda Elevate.
  • Initial groundwork for Honda’s first electric vehicle (EV) for India.

After completing his three-year term, Tsumura will now move to a new role in Honda’s global operations in Japan.

Who is Takashi Nakajima?

The incoming HCIL CEO Takashi Nakajima has been associated with Honda Motor Company for over 30 years, serving in various capacities across multiple international markets, including:

  • Japan
  • China
  • Spain
  • Czech Republic
  • Russia

Before this appointment, Nakajima was serving as the President of Honda Car Russia since 2021. He also handled key roles in Business Planning, Product Planning, Marketing, and Corporate Communication for Honda’s automobile business in Japan.

What’s Next for Honda Cars India Under Nakajima’s Leadership?

With Nakajima at the helm, Honda Cars India is expected to:

  • Strengthen its presence in the SUV market following the success of the Honda Elevate.
  • Expand its hybrid and electric vehicle offerings to align with India’s evolving auto market.
  • Enhance its market strategy with a strong focus on innovation, marketing, and customer engagement.

Conclusion

The leadership transition at Honda Cars India marks a significant moment for the brand as it looks forward to the next phase of growth in the Indian market. With Takashi Nakajima’s vast experience in international markets and strategic planning, HCIL is poised for exciting developments in the coming years.
