XUV700 Diesel Sales Reach 74% of Total

The Mahindra XUV700 marks its third anniversary today, August 14, 2024, with impressive sales figures and a strong preference for diesel variants. Let’s dive into the details of this popular SUV’s performance in the Indian market.

XUV700 Sales Milestone and Diesel Dominance

Since its launch in 2021, the XUV700 has sold nearly 2,00,000 units, with current figures standing at 1,96,971 as of July 2024. Interestingly, 74% of sales come from diesel variants, showcasing the continued demand for diesel-powered SUVs in India.

In the first four months of FY2025 (April-July 2024), Mahindra sold 24,839 XUV700 units, marking a 15% year-on-year increase. Of these, 18,431 units were diesel variants, accounting for 74% of total sales, while petrol variants made up the remaining 26% with 6,408 units sold.

Variant Offerings and Pricing

The XUV700 is available in both 5- and 7-seater configurations with a wide range of powertrain options:

  1. Petrol: 2.0-litre turbocharged mStallion engine (200hp, 380Nm)
  2. Diesel: 2.2-litre mHawk engine in two tunes
    • 155hp, 360Nm (base MX trim)
    • 185hp, 420Nm (higher trims)
    • 185hp, 450Nm (diesel automatic)

With 44 variants (19 petrol, 25 diesel) and prices ranging from Rs 17.23 lakh to Rs 32.35 lakh (on-road), the XUV700 competes with both 5- and 7-seater SUVs like the Tata Harrier, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and Hyundai Alcazar.

Production Plans

To meet the growing demand, Mahindra plans to increase its production capacity:

  • 64,000 units per month (7,68,000 units per annum) by end-FY2025
  • 72,000 units per month (8,64,000 units per annum) by end-2026

XUV700 production has already seen a 5% increase in the first four months of FY2025, with 23,168 units produced compared to 22,036 units in the same period last year.
