The e Vitara was showcased in full production form at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 and dispatched to several Nexa dealerships soon after, sparking speculation of an imminent launch. But in its recent financial results call, Maruti Suzuki India Limited’s Chairman, R.C. Bhargava, revealed that the domestic launch would happen only by September 2025.
eVitara: Launch Delayed Despite Earlier Hype
Focus on Exports First
Maruti Suzuki is prioritizing exports over domestic sales for the e Vitara. The EV will be manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant, with 70,000 units targeted for FY26 — most of which will be shipped abroad. Domestic availability will commence only after export obligations are met.
Powertrain & Performance Specifications
The e Vitara will be available in two battery variants:
- 49 kWh battery delivering 142 bhp
- 61 kWh battery delivering 172 bhp
Both variants offer 192.5 Nm of torque and are powered by a single electric motor.
Performance Highlights:
- Top Speed: 150 kmph (both variants)
- 0-100 kmph: 9.6 seconds (49 kWh), 8.7 seconds (61 kWh)
- Range (WLTP): 346 km (49 kWh), 428 km (61 kWh)
Warranty and Retail Plans of e Vitara
The e Vitara is also expected to come with a 10-year battery warranty, at least in global markets. In India, it will be retailed exclusively via the Nexa dealership network, which caters to Maruti Suzuki’s premium offerings.
What Caused the Delay?
While the EV was supposed to go into production in May 2025, there is no official update on whether this timeline is still intact. A formal query regarding the delay has gone unanswered, raising questions about possible production or logistical bottlenecks.
Conclusion: Wait Gets Longer for India’s Most Anticipated Electric SUV
Maruti Suzuki’s first electric SUV may be late to the party, but it promises a lot — competitive performance, dual battery options, and global-grade specifications. While Indian buyers will have to wait until at least September 2025, the e Vitara is shaping up to be worth the anticipation.
