The petrol-powered Activa has been India’s best-selling scooter for the past two decades, and Honda aims to leverage the success of this model in their electric version. The Activa Electric is anticipated to be a mass-market product, with an aggressive pricing strategy. Reports indicate that Honda is expanding production capacity by adding two manufacturing lines in Gujarat and Karnataka, with production of the Activa Electric expected to start at the Karnataka facility by December 2024.

Design and Features
The Activa Electric will be built on a new platform named ‘Platform E,’ featuring a swingarm-mounted motor, as seen in patent drawings. It will include modern features such as a touchscreen instrument console, Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, hill-hold assist, reverse mode, and possibly keyless functionality. The scooter will cater to family needs with ample underseat storage, a front glove box, and storage hooks.
Charging and Battery Swap
The Activa Electric may also support Honda’s ebattery swapping network, which is currently operational at metro stations and HPCL petrol stations in Bengaluru. Honda plans to expand this network across India by March 2025 to ensure sufficient charging infrastructure and boost the electric scooter’s appeal to potential customers.
Pricing and Competition
The upcoming Honda Activa Electric is projected to be priced between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 1.3 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete with models such as the Ola S1 Air, Ather Rizta, Vida V1 Pro, and Bajaj Chetak.
