Ather Energy, the innovative electric vehicle start-up from India, is gearing up for its next big move. The company has announced plans to begin exporting its popular electric scooters to Sri Lanka by the end of 2024. This expansion marks a significant milestone in Ather’s journey to become a global player in the electric two-wheeler market.

Ather Energy: Retail Presence and Partnerships

First Experience Centre in Sri Lanka

Ather Energy is not just shipping scooters; they’re building a comprehensive presence in Sri Lanka. The company plans to open its first retail store, known as an Experience Centre, in the country by Q4 of this year. This move will give Sri Lankan customers a hands-on experience with Ather’s cutting-edge electric scooters.

Collaboration with Evolution Auto Pvt. Ltd.

To ensure smooth operations in Sri Lanka, Ather has partnered with Evolution Auto Pvt. Ltd. This collaboration will see Evolution Auto serving as Ather’s national distributor, overseeing both sales and service operations across the country.

Building Infrastructure for the Future

Charging Network Expansion

Understanding the importance of a robust charging infrastructure, Ather has committed to building a network of fast-charging stations throughout Sri Lanka. This initiative mirrors their successful approach in India and Nepal, where they have already established extensive charging grids.

Learning from Past Successes

Nepal as a Case Study

Ather’s expansion into Sri Lanka follows its successful entry into Nepal last year. In Nepal, the company has already grown to three Experience Centres and seven fast-charging grids, demonstrating its ability to quickly establish a strong presence in new markets.

Ather’s Current Portfolio

Electric Scooters for Every Need

As Ather prepares to enter the Sri Lankan market, it brings with it a diverse range of electric scooters. In India, the company currently offers:

  1. The 450 series, including the 450S and 450X models
  2. The recently introduced Rizta scooter

These models cater to various customer preferences and needs in the electric two-wheeler segment.

Strengthening the Supply Chain

Partnership with Amara Raja

To support its expansion plans, Ather has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with battery manufacturer Amara Raja. This partnership aims to develop and supply advanced lithium-ion cells and battery components for Ather’s electric scooters, ensuring a steady and reliable supply chain.

Conclusion: Ather Energy to Sri Lanka

Ather Energy’s move into Sri Lanka represents a significant step in the company’s international growth strategy. By combining innovative products, strategic partnerships, and a focus on infrastructure development, Ather is well-positioned to make a substantial impact in the Sri Lankan electric vehicle market. As the company continues to expand its footprint beyond India, it’s clear that Ather Energy is charging ahead towards a greener, more sustainable future of transportation.
