Volkswagen India is all set to introduce the new-generation Tiguan R-Line on April 14, 2025. This premium SUV, which debuted globally in 2023, will arrive in India as a Completely Built-Up (CBU) unit, making it a high-end offering in Volkswagen’s portfolio.
Volkswagen Tiguan: A Flagship Model for India
The Tiguan R-Line is part of Volkswagen India’s strategy to enhance its brand presence in the country. Alongside this SUV, the company is also bringing in the Golf GTI, another CBU model, later in 2025.
Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen India, stated, “We strongly believe these icons [Tiguan R-Line and Golf GTI] are truly aspirational and will permeate excitement among customers and fans of the brand.” This move aims at strengthening Volkswagen’s identity in India rather than focusing solely on volume sales.
Design and Platform Enhancements
The new Volkswagen Tiguan is built on the updated MQB ‘evo’ platform. It is slightly larger than its predecessor, measuring 30 mm longer and 4 mm taller while maintaining the same width and 2,680 mm wheelbase. The vehicle’s drag coefficient has improved to 0.28 Cd from 0.33 Cd, making it more aerodynamic.
A notable highlight is the ‘IQ Light HD’ Matrix headlights, which were originally designed for Volkswagen’s flagship Touareg SUV. These headlights use 38,400 multi-pixel LEDs to enhance visibility and add to the SUV’s premium appeal.
Premium Interior and Technology
Inside, the new Tiguan features an upgraded Digital Cockpit layout, comprising a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.1-inch freestanding central touchscreen running Volkswagen’s latest MIB4 infotainment system.
Globally, the new Tiguan also comes with Dynamic Chassis Control Pro as an option. This advanced adaptive suspension system pairs twin-valve variable dampers with a Vehicle Dynamics Manager (VDM), offering improved agility and control. However, it remains uncertain whether this feature will be available in the India-spec R-Line model.
Volkswagen Tiguan: Expected Price and Market Positioning
Since the Tiguan R-Line is a CBU import, it is expected to be significantly more expensive than the outgoing Tiguan model. The estimated price is well over Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it as a luxury SUV competing with premium brands in the Indian market.
Conclusion
The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line is set to make a bold statement in India’s premium SUV segment. With its cutting-edge technology, aerodynamic improvements, and luxury features, it is poised to attract enthusiasts looking for a high-performance and stylish SUV. Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the official launch on April 14!
